INVITATION FOR APPLICATIONS
POST OF VICE-CHANCELLOR
The Council of the Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka invites applications for the post of Vice Chancellor in terms of section 34 of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978 and subsequent amendments and as per the terms and conditions in Commission Circular No. 03/2023.
Applicants should be citizens of Sri Lanka and shall be less than sixty three (63) years of age by the closing date of the applications. The Vice-Chancellor shall, unless he/she vacates office earlier or is removed from office in terms of the Universities Act, hold office for a term of three years or until he/she completes his/her sixty fifth year, whichever occurs earlier.
Under the provision of the Universities Act, the Vice-Chancellor is a full time Officer, and shall be the Principal Executive Officer, the Principal Academic Officer, and the Accounting Officer of the University. He/She shall also be an ex-officio member and the Chairman of both the Council and the Senate. The Vice-Chancellor is responsible for directing academic affairs, introducing management policies, implementing the decisions of the Council, and the administration of the University. He/She shall uphold the principles of academic excellence, transparency, accountability, democratic management, and effective impartial leadership.
Application Procedure
The applicant shall be requested to submit, together with his/her application
- a statement of Vision for the development of the University,
- a brief account of what he/she proposes to achieve if appointed to the post of Vice Chancellor
- a full Curriculum Vitae including date of birth of the applicant.
In addition, a soft copy of the above documents together with any other supporting documents in PDF format should be submitted to the registrar@uwu.ac.lk e-mail address.
When the incumbent Vice-Chancellor is an applicant or had held the post of Vice-Chancellor of the University before, he/she shall give a Report highlighting accomplishment during his/her first period of the office, in addition to the documents (i), (ii) and (iii) mentioned above.
In case of an applicant serving in Public Service, Corporations, Statutory Bodies or Higher Educational Institutions other than the Uva Wellassa University, he/she should submit a letter from the employer indicating whether he/she could be released in the event of his/her appointment to the post.
Selection Procedure
All eligible applicants will be summoned before a Special Council meeting for a brief presentation of a minimum of ten (10) minutes duration but not exceeding fifteen (15) minutes. Chair or any member of the Council has a right to question any Applicant to elicit further information as to matters mentioned in his/her Statement of Vision, Curriculum Vitae and presentation or the ascertain his/her suitability for the post of Vice-Chancellor.
In an exceptional situation, if any applicant is not in a position to appear before the Special Council meeting in person due to an illness or for being overseas, he/she shall be allowed to appear via virtual mode, with prior notice of the Registrar.

“Post of Vice-Chancellor” should be mentioned in the top left hand corner of the envelope containing the application and documents. The applications received after the closing time will not be considered.
