University Thai Pongal Ceremony


Pongal will be served for all
Food stalls and mehndi stall are available at the premises.

All 3 Competitions of the University Thai Pongal Ceremony are organized as Inter-faculty competitions. Guidelines for the Competitions are given below.

Guide Lines for Pongal Competition

  • Each faculty should represented by one team.
  • Each group must consist of a minimum number of 10 members. Maximum number of members allowed is 12.
  • Presence of Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim undergraduates is compulsory in each and every group.
  • The group is responsible for both preparing Pongal and presenting it.
  • Marks will be given for the method of exhibition, taste of Pongal, and cleanliness of the work place.
  • Decorations in the working place will also be considered when giving marks. You can arrange your things and decorate the place before competition begins.
  • Maximum time allocated is 2 hours. By the end of the 2 hours the prepared Pongal must be presented to the panel of judges for tasting.
  • Do keep in mind to clean the work place after the competition.
  • Basic ingredients for preparing Pongal, and clay  pot will be provided by the organizing Committee.
  • Dress Code: Traditional Dress of the Each Ethnic Group.

Guide Lines for Kolam Competition

  • Each faculty should represented by one team
  • Each group must consist of a minimum number of 4 members. Maximum number of members allowed is 7.
  • Presence of Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim undergraduates is compulsory in each and every group.
  • Marks will be given for the method of exhibition, cleanliness of the work place etc..
  • Decorations in the working place will also be considered when giving marks.
  • Natural ingredients must be used.
  • Kolam should follow a theme.
  • Size of the Colam: 1m x 1m
  • Maximum time allocated is 1  hour.
  • Do keep in mind to clean the work place after the competition.
  • Dress Code: Traditional Dress of the Each Ethnic Group.

Cabbadi Competition

  • Two (2) teams  (one Male and one Female) should participate from each faculty.
  • Each team should consist 12 members
  • Dress Code: T -shirt (Each team should have one colour) and Track Bottom.
