A New Chapter in the Development of Uva Wellassa University! Hostels for 1,800 Students
Uva Wellassa University proudly marked the ceremonial commencement of Phase I of its major Student Hostel Development Project on 28 October 2026, with the laying of the foundation stone by the Vice Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University.
This is the first step in a major infrastructure development initiative aimed at providing accommodation for 1,800 students through the construction of six new hostel buildings.
Project Overview:
- 3 hostel buildings accommodating 200 students each
- 3 hostel buildings accommodating 400 students each
- Total accommodation capacity: 1,800 students
- Phase I: Commenced in October 2026
- Phases II and III: Scheduled to commence in 2027
- Overall project completion: 2030
The first hostel building, with a capacity of 200 students and an investment of approximately LKR 307.78 million + VAT, is expected to be completed in October 2027.
This significant development represents another important milestone in the University’s journey towards strengthening its infrastructure, enhancing student welfare, and providing a better residential and academic environment for future generations.
