The Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Resources Technology (BScHons) degree programme offered by the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka (UWU) is a unique degree programme which accomplishes SLQF Level 06. The degree program was offered by UWU after 3 years of its establishment (2009) and the first batch of students graduated in 2013. The degree focuses on the aquaculture and fishery production, management, sustainable utilization and value addition aspects of aquatic resources. This program emphasizes on the theme of the UWU “Value Addition to National Resources Base”.
The curriculum was designed by going through individual consultations with eminent scientists, academics, government & non-government officials, researchers and industrialists etc. During the curriculum revision process, Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF) and Subject Benchmark Statements from international Universities were considered in preparation of graduate profile and attributes, programme outcomes, course specifications with ILOs, teaching, learning and assessment strategies. Graduates of BScHons in Aquatic Resources Technology degree program will gain a comprehensive training both on theoretical and practical aspects of aquaculture & fishery production, management of aquatic resources and aquatic food processing technology.
Graduates of BScHons in Aquatic Resources Technology will have in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of Aquatic Resources Technology which can be applied in both local and global contexts.
