  • Course Details:

    The Bachelor of Tea Technology and Value Addition Honours (BScHons) degree programme offered by the Department of Export Agriculture, Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka (UWU) is a unique degree programme to UWU which accomplishes SLQF Level 06. The degree focuses on the plantation, management, production and value addition aspects of tea industry in Sri Lanka. The syllabus was prepared by going through individual consultations with eminent scientists, academics, government & non-government officials engaged in tea industry, researchers, industrialists etc. This program emphasizes on the theme of the UWU; “Value Addition”.

    In order to meet the higher education needs in capacity building for value addition to the tea sector and entrepreneurship, the University has introduced a unique degree programme, Bachelor of Science in Tea Technology and Value Addition. The BSc in Tea Technology and Value Addition degree has been designed to produce graduates with specialized knowledge in tea industry and practical skills in exploring the opportunities in value addition with the aim of uplifting the Sri Lankan Tea industry to strive in the competitive world market.

    During the curriculum revision process, Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF) was referred in preparation of graduate profile and attributes, programme outcomes, course specifications with ILOs, teaching & learning strategies and assessment strategies.

    Graduates of BSc in Tea Technology and Value Addition degree program will gain a comprehensive training both on theoretical and practical aspects of tea plantation management, production, auctioning and exporting procedures.

    Tea Technology and Value Addition graduates of the Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka will possess theoretical knowledge, conceptual & entrepreneurial skills with practical experience needed to function effectively in tea production, processing, value addition, marketing and to propose solutions to emerging problems through active involvement in research and development activities.

    Knowledge:

    BSc in Tea Technology and Value Addition graduates will have in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of scientific knowledge for proper assessment of Sri Lankan Tea sector. It promotes innovative value addition approaches to develop Tea sector in Sri Lanka. Course offers students with specialized knowledge in relevant subjects through theoretical studies and practical training. Also, it stimulates demand-oriented researches to uphold the Sri Lankan Tea Industry in the competitive world market.
