CHIEF MARSHAL (TEMPORARY BASIS)

The Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka is inviting applications from suitably qualified Sri Lankan citizens possessing the following qualifications for the post of Chief Marshal (Temporary Basis). Duly completed applications should reach the University on or before 10.04.2026.

Chief Marshal (Temporary Basis)

Qualifications:

A holder of the post of Deputy Chief Marshal in the Marshal Service in the university system and confirmed in that post with not less than five (05) years of satisfactory service in that grade.

Physique:

Height – 5′.5″
Chest – 32″ deflated

Note: Preference will be given to those with actively participated in sports activities, social welfare activities and recreation programmes within the university and at national level.

OR

. An Officer not below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in Sri Lanka Armed Forces/equivalent rank in Sri Lanka Police with active participation in sports activities.

Method of Recruitment:

Selection by a structured interview. Applicants who have scored 40% marks or above at the structured interview are eligible to be considered for selection.

Salary:

An all-inclusive fixed monthly Salary of Rs.159,000.00, along with the cost of living allowance and other approved allowances. Statutory deductions and contributions are made to the Universities Provident Fund (UPF – 7% employee contribution and UPF – 8% employer contribution) and the Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF – 3% employer contribution).

National Science Foundation Research Grant (RG/2025/EA&ICT/01)

Research Project: “Design and development of a first ever low-cost groundnut combine harvester for Sri Lankan variety and investigate the performance in the field”

Applications are called from suitable, qualified graduates who are willing to read and work as a Full-time Research Assistant for a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Degree for the above research project at the Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka.

Required Qualifications:

• B.Sc. Degree in Agriculture OR Technology obtained from a recognised university at the graduate level (Specialisation and Classes will be preferable for selection).
• Subject knowledge, work Experience, and research experience relevant to the proposed project will be an added qualification.
• Publication in Machine design and Finite element method (FEM) or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling is compulsory
• As a significant amount of field work and travelling is involved in the project, preference will be given to a male candidate.

Method of Selection:

Shortlisted applicants would be called for an interview. Selection will be done based on the academic qualifications, subject knowledge, work experience, research, publications and performance in the interview.

Period of Contract:

The contract period for the above post is two years, and you need to get into an agreement with the principal investigator of the project for this period, and if you leave before the contract period, you need to pay back the total value of the stipend received by you from the Research grant.

Benefits to the selected candidate

a) Monthly Stipend:

A monthly stipend is available for two years. All-inclusive LKR 60,000/= per month will be paid based on the payment regulations of the National Science Foundations and Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka.

b) Registration fee for MPhil study:

MPhil registration fee will be fully covered under this project.

c)Travelling Expenses:

The travelling expenses pertaining to the research project will be covered under the research project grant.

Addressing delegates at the opening of the International Conference on “Transforming Libraries: Innovation, Management, Smart Technologies and Creative Knowledge of Society for the Future”, Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor Kolitha B. Wijesekara of Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka delivered a stirring chief guest speech, arguing that technology is an enhancer, not a substitute, for the profession of librarianship.

The Two-day conference was jointly organized by the Library and the Department of Management Studies of Periyar University, Selam, Tamil Nadu India with the funding of the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF) of Government of India on 14 and 15 March 2026.

The conference brought together academicians, researchers, librarians, educators, IT professionals, policymakers and students to share ideas and discuss future directions for libraries in building a knowledge-driven society.

The Vice-Chancellor, Kolitha B. Wijesekara acknowledged the transformative impact of digital tools on information access but stressed that they lack the human intuition and critical thinking skills that librarians provide. He emphasized that technology cannot replicate the empathy, the mentorship, or the scholarly dialogue that a trained librarian provides. As academics, our role is not to be replaced by machines, but to harness them, freeing ourselves to focus on the higher-order tasks of teaching, guiding, and empowering our communities.

He called on information professionals to embrace their evolving roles as data experts, digital literacy coaches, and research collaborators. The speech set a thoughtful and human-centric tone for the conference, which aims to explore the future of information sciences.
