Exploring Potentials in Challenging Periods

We are pleased to announce that the International Research

Conference of Uva Wellassa University (IRCUWU2021) will be

held as an Online conference on 1st and 2nd July,2021

The Event at Glance

The 5th international Research conference of Uva Wellassa University was proudly held on 1st and 2nd of July 2021, as a fully virtual conference.

Through its past conferences, Uva Wellassa University has made significant contributions to the exploration of avenues of value addition to Sri Lankan resources. The 5th International Research Conference of Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka-IRCUWU2021 focused on exploring new horizons to combat difficulties by opening it under the theme "Exploring Potentials in Challenging Periods" at a time when the entire world is facing one of the most significant challenges in human history, the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prof. J.L. Ratnasekera, Vice Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University, presided over the inaugural session of the IRCUWU2021. The event was held at the Main Computer Lab at Uva Wellassa University adhering to all Covid-19 health guidelines. The distinguished chief guest, Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka, graced IRCUWU2021.A scholarly keynote speech on " Experiences of Water Pollution Prevention and Control in China during 40 years " presented by Professor Yuansong Wei of the Chinese Academy of Sciences enlightens the event. Furthermore, Professor Ramesh G. Mani from Georgia State University in Atlanta, USA, delivered the second keynote speech on " Potential future applications of graphene; Detection of spin resonance in epitaxial graphene," enhancing the value of the inaugural session.

Academics, researchers, scientists, industrialists, professionals, graduates, and undergraduate students convened for IRCUWU2021 to explore and disseminate unique and innovative ideas and research findings published in ten thematic areas.

Scholars from all over the globe presented 277 research findings chosen from more than 500 abstracts submitted in ten thematic areas at IRCUWU2021. The presented IRCUWU2021 abstracts are published online as an electronic archive in the university web system. (link: http://www.uwu.ac.lk/wp-content/uploads/2021/ircuwu_2021_proceedings.pdf). The most influential research work in each track was selected based on panel members’ feedback, encouraging researchers to bring on more perfect inventions.

Guest of Honour

Ramesh G. Mani, Ph. D. Professor,

Department of Physics and Astronomy, Georgia State University, USA

Ramesh Mani completed his undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Maryland, College Park. He worked as a guest scientist at the Max-Planck-Institute in Stuttgart, Germany, where he invented and developed the "anti-Hall bar within a Hall bar" configuration, which helped to demonstrate sign reversal of the Hall effect within voids, and the possibility of dual simultaneous ordinary, integral-quantum, and fractional-quantum Hall effects in a single multiply connected specimen. From Stuttgart, he returned to the USA with a position at the University of California, Santa Barbara, before moving to Harvard University. While at Harvard, he discovered the radiation-induced zero-resistance states and associated 1/4-cycle shifted  magnetoresistance oscillations in the GaAs/AlGaAs 2D electron system. He subsequently moved to Georgia State University, where he has established a Nanoscience, Low Temperature and High Magnetic Field Laboratory in order to examine low dimensional electronic systems based also on modern 2D materials such as graphene.
