Disaster-Risk Reduction and Rehabilitation

Vulnerability and hazard are the main factors contributing to risk from natural and man- made disasters. Each disaster causes a serious blow to economy and loss of lives Disaster comes and goes in few hours, few days or few months but it leaves a trail of devastation which takes years to rehabilitate and bring the normalcy.

Can Geo-Information Technology offer a solution away forward to reduce risk of disasters and facilitate rehabilitation? Can the constellation of remote sensing and GPS satellites provide enough information to create a knowledge base for developing a GIS platform for reducing the risk of disaster and also offering a rapid rehabilitation? Can Geo-Informatics technology propose sustainable solution for rehabilitation?

Objective

The conference will focus on the use of Geo-Information Technologies for Natural Disaster Management i.e. mapping, monitoring, and managing to develop resilience to reduce the risk from earthquake, flood, drought, typhoon and tsunamiĀ  etc,. There will also be deliberations on how to use GIS for better planning of risk areas and ensuring sustainable rehabilitation.

Main Themes

Earthquake, Flood, Drought, Coastal Zone Disasters, Landslides Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change and Disasters, Geographical Databases for NDM, IT in NDM - Monitoring, Mapping Mitigation, Post Disaster Disease Surveillance and Care, National Spatial Database Infrastructure
